Expo 2020 Dubai resolution for postponement to Oct 1, 2021 – Mar 31, 2022 has surpassed the required two-third threshold.
Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) issued the statement on their website. Due to novel coronavirus pandemic, the postponement was proposed by UAE Government in start of April and was recommended by BIE Executive Committee on April 21. Remote voting started on April 24 and with in a week, the proposal surpassed the required threshold of two-third. The decision will be formalized after the voting ends on May 29.
Secretary General of BIE, Mr. Dimitri Kerkentzes applauded the swift response by BIE members.
Dubai Media Office welcomed the decision and tweeted about it. Dubai Media Office also shared a statement from HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Expo 2020 Dubai Higher Committee.
